Welcome to Chilliwack Central Elementary Community School
Our Central community creates a safe and caring environment which inspires each person to find joy in learning and to reach their full potential
"Where passion meets purpose"
As Central Sockeyes we are Safe, Warm hearted, have Integrity, and are Mindful
Welcome to a great year at Central Elementary School! Located in the heart of downtown Chilliwack, Central has been educating the citizens of our wonderful city for almost 100 years. We have some wonderful plans for this school year; it promises to be an exciting time for all of us in the Central school community!
The staff members at Central are committed to improving student achievement in all areas, including the academic, social and physical skills that are essential to success in school and in life. We know that sound thinking leads to success. Our desire is to see every child be successful at reading, writing, speaking and problem-solving, with solid language and number skills. We want every child to experience enjoyment and personal satisfaction and to learn to work effectively with others as they develop into caring, contributing members of our community. The decisions made at Central will reflect this commitment.
We maintain an open communication policy with you at home. Our website, class and school newsletters, and our parent bulletin board in the school are a few ways we try to stay in touch. In addition, we welcome you to come into the school and talk with us and to get involved in whatever capacity fits your family schedule. Parental involvement in a child's education is a key indicator of future success.
Please do not hesitate to call the school office (604-792-8537) if you require more information or wish to speak with a staff member. We look forward to a great year together!

Student Dress Code Feedback
We would like your feedback on the most important things we should consider as we review the guidelines for a Chilliwack School District Dress Code. We are using an online platform called ThoughtExchange where you can share your thoughts independently and confidentially, and consider and rate thoughts shared by others. Note that the deadline for the forum is Tuesday, April 30, 2019. All feedback will be collated and provided to the Education Policy Advisory Committee regarding a proposed new policy on a student dress code as per the approved Board motion that was passed on March 12, 2019
“THAT the Board of Education recommends the adoption of the following policy and will seek feedback from partner groups via the Education Policy Advisory Committee.”
534 Policy: Student Dress Code
The Board is committed to providing students with learning environments that are safe and inclusive. Students must show respect for everyone, and this does not change based on how someone is dressed. The Board believes that judgments on the appropriateness of student attire are best made by students and their families, because clothing choices reflect individual identity, cultural norms, and socio-economic factors and are intensely personal. Students may attend school and school-related functions in clothing of their choice, provided that it meets the following conditions:
1. Conforms with the health and safety requirements for the intended activity.
2. Does not promote drugs or alcohol.
3. Does not display profanity.
4. Does not display discriminatory language or images.
This policy does not apply to schools that have adopted school uniforms.
